Charging points on public roads

    Who can install it?

    Any developer, business, or retailer with access to parking areas from public roads (Royal Decree 1053/2014, of December 12).

    Management with the distributor for charging points at my business

    • If the contracted power is sufficient: No interaction with the distributor is necessary.
    • If more power is needed: Manage it with the retailer.
    • If a company is going to manage the charging point at your business, they must request a new supply.

     

    Public Access Point Locations

    They can be promoted by:

     

    1. Public bodies         2. Third parties (businesses, shops, etc.)

     

    They are installed via public tender if promoted by Public Bodies. In the case of third parties, they can install public access points without a tender process.

    The successful bidder must be a Charging Point Operator (CPO). Regulated by Royal Decree 184/2022.

    It is currently mandatory to install public access charging points in the following locations:

    • Service stations that meet the established criteria (Law 7/2021 reflected in Royal Decree 29/2021, Article 2).
    • Public or private non-residential parking lots and parking areas (Royal Decree Law 29/2021, of December 21, Title 1, Article 4).
    • Trans-European Transport Network Corridors (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation AFIR).

     

    Process for deploying public charging infrastructure

    It consists of:

    1. The charging station itself from which the vehicle connects
    2. The connection from the public distribution network to the station.

To obtain electricity supply:

Request a new supply from the distribution company in the private area of ​​the website.

To expedite the process, it is important to coordinate between the different municipal departments. It is recommended that the city council conduct prior validation by the urban planning department for the area where you are requesting the supply.

It is important to specify the location of the power delivery point (the location of the general low-voltage protection box and the medium-voltage disconnection center) when requesting a new supply point.
